Last week I found myself scrolling down my newsfeed hating on some of my peer’s that looked like they were having the time of their lives.
How is it that everyone else is being put on while I am here living check to check, working a 9 to 5 that I hate.
I appreciate the things that I was able to accomplish but, I am not truly living. The job that I work has nothing to do with my major and I find it consuming all of my time.
This morning I was feeling kind of down so I listened to this sermon from TD Jakes and he said something that touched me.
He said that when God has something for you, you don’t have to prove yourself or go out of your way to get it. God will align things in your favor and this hit home for me.
I was wasting my time comparing myself to other people who had different journeys.
Its like children when they want something just because they see another child with it. They weren’t thinking about what the other kid had until they saw them enjoying it. So they felt like they were missing out on something that was never meant for them in the first place.
We do this subconsciously at times and if you aren’t sure if you can relate answer this for me.How much time do you spend scrolling down your timeline?
No, this is not a survey or anything but I need you to be honest with yourself. Once you answer this question, answer my next question.
How much time do you spend tuning into other people’s lives on social media?
Now, answer this question.
How many times do you spend laying down wishing that your life was more like someone else’s.
I’ve done this numerous times so if you are in that boat, trust me you are not alone.
It is natural to be inspired by the success of others but it becomes a problem when you spend more time consuming other people’s lives instead of living your own.
The toughest pill to swallow is the one where you see people just like you accomplishing the goals that you wanted to accomplish. If this is you then I am about to change your life because together we are going to put this bad habit to an end. I have come up with 3 steps that you can take to help you live the life you want to live instead of sitting on the sidelines watching it on a phone screen.
Stop Consuming & Start Producing
Instead of spending countless hours watching people live the lives that you want to live go out there and create your own. If your tired of sitting around watching everyone go out while you are laying in the bed eating a bowl of ice cream find things to do.
Evenbrite is the perfect tool that you can use to find out what is going on around you. From parties, night cruises and festivals they have it all. Attend these events and outings and share your experience with the world. In order to live the life that you desire, you must take action.
Rome wasn’t build in a day but it was built and in order to build your dream you have to be consistent. If that means doing one task everyday that will get you a step closer to building your dream. Sometimes the little things can mean a lot so don’t take anything for granted.
My dream is to be a traveling writer so if that means writing a page everyday and going somewhere I never been before that is a step in the right direction. Or even writing about the places I want to go is a start. Find a task that you can do everyday that will prepare you or get you a step closer to where you want to be.
Create A Ritual That Get’s You Going
I believe that every morning you wake up, you should be doing something to feed your soul. Every morning before I start work or go about my day I listen to a series of inspirational videos. This helps me stay on track or in most cases get back on track.
Having a constant reminder that I can do anything I put my mind to and be successful helps me push myself further. Sometimes we need this when we feel discouraged or get distracted.
With the numerous trials that life throws at us, it is essential to have some sort of foundation. Your foundation will be something that inspires you on day where you aren’t feeling as motivated.
Whether you create an inspirational playlist, write your daily goals in a journal, add something new to your vision board, meditate or create an affirmation, you need something that will keep you grounded.
If you do these three things then you will be on the right track. Remember you can’t perfect you craft if your too busy focusing on someone else’s.
